Dermaplaning is an exfoliative treatment performed using a scalpel to “shave” away the outermost layers of the skin. This process is painless and very safe but is only recommended for treatment of the face (not the nose or décolleté). Not only will you achieve smoother, brighter skin but this also helps remove peach fuzz.
Dermaplaning, also known as blading, skin resurfacing or skin/epidermal levelling, removes the outer most layers of dead skin cells, leaving the skin immediately smooth, supple and vibrant. It is a non-traumatic method of skin rejuvenation. Dermaplaning is a favourite in the entertainment industry, especially among models and actresses. The reason is because it eliminates that annoying peach fuzz that cakes up in makeup and can be enhanced by harsh production lighting and high-definition cameras.
Dermaplaning is essentially another form of exfoliation. With each stroke, you are sloughing off dead skin cells that sit on the surface and the constant exfoliation may aid in keeping wrinkles at bay. It is a non-invasive procedure. After exfoliating with Dermaplaning, the skin is left smoother and, with continued treatments, fine lines are significantly minimised. Removing epidermal skin also allows products to penetrate more readily into the deeper layers. Many aestheticians recommend this treatment to prepare the skin for other procedures such as laser treatments or deep chemical peels.
Dermaplaning is most often used on clients with rough, dry skin, superficial hyperpigmentation, mild acne scarring, or fine lines and wrinkles. The treatment results in a more refined, smooth, “glowing” appearance.
There is no downtime associated with this procedure. The importance of using sunscreen to reduce the chance of hyperpigmentation will be highlighted.
